Cr Cathy Casey Portrait photo The first day of three days of Unitary Plan deliberations ended with Cathy Casey successfully moving an amendment to the affordable housing provisions. She got support by 12 votes to 8 for  “A requirement for all residential development of 15 or more dwellings to include at least 10 per cent of the dwellings as retained affordable housing, as defined in the draft Unitary Plan.”
Officers had recommended  only 7%  but were not able to direct Councillors to any evidence to justify this position.
City Vision recognises that ensuring the provision of an increased amount of affordable healthy housing is an important need and challenge  for the Auckland Council and is committed to  inclusionary zoning so affordable housing is part of all developments.
