I am a husband and father of 3 young children, of Pacific and NZ-European heritage.
I am a public health researcher at the University of Auckland and focus on solutions to prevent obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
I hope to use the understandings I have gained in public health to provide informed decisions on the shape and nature of how our health services can best meet the needs of our diverse community.
Particularly, I feel we need to prioritise prevention ensuring our DHB role models health promoting environments. This is particularly important considering the drivers of unhealthy weight and diabetes are mainly due to the availability of unhealthy food in our environments; particular sugary drinks and sugary foods.
