Media release: Patrick Reynolds welcomes progress on K-Rd development
“I am very pleased to see the Environment Court has done the clearly positive thing and approved the proposed building for the empty site at 538 Karangahape Rd by James Kirkpatrick Group” says Patrick Reynolds, City Vision candidate for the Waitematā and Gulf ward.
“This is an ideal location : it is surrounded by many currently struggling hospitality businesses on both Ponsonby and Karangahape Rds, who will be very happy to invite the 800 new office and retail tenants of this project to the area, within easy walking distance to the future Karanga-a-Hape Station, on many bus routes, and the growing cycleway network. Such a high-quality new building will support further growth in an area perfectly suited for it. It sets such a high standard, that it should lead to a dynamic new reshaping of the area.”
“Urban concentration is essential, as is high environmental performance and quality architecture. These are the bottom line for urban development. Not just nice to haves, but core tasks in successful city shaping. Building up in the right places to a high design standard is essential, enabling this type of building is a key role for Council.”
“If I’m elected Waitematā and Gulf Councillor, I will actively encourage more high quality developments like this one. It’s important that Auckland Council doesn’t get in the way of progress that creates new, well-designed future-focused living and working options for Aucklanders in the most appropriate locations”
