Following on from the very successful launch of the Bury the Pylons campaign by the Roskill Community Voice team several weeks ago, th
ere has been a huge upswell of community support for this issue.
The latest development is that a public meeting has been called for people in Onehunga who also want to take action. The meeting is being organised by our friends on the Maungakiekie Team (who are currently represented on the Maungakiekie-Tamaki Local Board by Brett Clark, Bridget Graham, and Simon Randall). Speakers will include Phil Goff, Carol Beaumont, Jim Jackson, and Richard Northey.
The meeting will be held on Saturday 10 August from 3pm at St Peters Church, corner Church St & Onehunga Mall, Onehunga.
The Bury the Pylons campaign is fundamentally about fairness. It simply isn’t right that some of our communities have to carry the burden of electricity transmission, that the whole region enjoys. A pragmatic plan for dealing with the issue will be presented at the meeting.
All members of the public are welcome, and if the previous meeting was anything to go by, the pews will be overflowing!
