Since the Good Citizen Awards were first established in 2013 a range of people and community groups have been recognised for the positive contribution they have made to Waitematā and beyond.
The awards were the brainchild of Local Board Chair Shale Chambers with great support from Local Board member Tricia Reade as a way of celebrating individuals and groups who help make the Waitematā a great place to live.
The biennial awards ceremony is a highlight on the local board calendar and a happy occasion where the hard mahi and service of volunteers is recognised. The nomination process is simple and the criteria clear. Awards are in three categories for individuals, children & Young people and community organisations that make a positive contribution. Nominations are considered by a panel made up of local board members and upstanding community representatives. Recipients since 2013 have come from all sorts of backgrounds and political viewpoints. Over the years there has also been a special award given for long service to the community.
The Good Citizen Awards 2023 ceremony takes place on Thursday 29th February at the Ellen Melville Centre.
City Vision congratulates the 2023 recipients and thanks them for their positive contribution.
