Mt Roskill gave me a great start to life, having grown up at the Roskill schools and then progressing onto the University of Auckland to complete a Master of Architecture degree. I am honoured to be able to give back to my community by representing them on the Puketāpapa Local Board of Auckland Council, now into my second term. I am currently the planning lead on the local board.
I have several interests and areas of expertise that I bring to the local board. One is urban planning and design – understanding the built environment from my time in architectural design gives me insight to the planning system and what outcomes might best benefit a growing community here. Strategically, there are opportunities such as Three Kings quarry development, rapid transit proposals and Kāinga Ora developments that are a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to deliver some of those positive aspirations for the future.
I also work for the New Zealand Green Building Council, working with property organisations and businesses to create better, more environmentally friendly and healthy environments. Many of those goals are transferrable to the conversations that happen around the board table – making sure internal and external parties can see the bigger picture of what they’re doing – to the environment, people, and facilities.
Climate action is a key issue for me – how can the local board activate our local community to do their bit in creating a better environment that is more connected, with less waste, and healthier? I am a huge advocate for sensible cycling infrastructure as I ride an ebike as my main mode of transport and see many people, young and old use bikes on the road and cycle paths to get around and enjoy the city. Safer routes can alleviate the worries that many have when trying to cycle on the road and open up a world of transport opportunities.
Thank you for your support over all these years. Ngā mihi mahana ki a koutou.
