City Vision a strong voice  Albert-Eden Local Board Achievements 2013- 2016

Your City Vision team of Helga Arlington, Graeme Easte, Glenda Fryer, Peter Haynes and Margi Watson have been bringing wide-ranging skills and experience to work for you and your community. Here is an overview of what we’ve achieved: 

Financial management

  • Close scrutiny of budgets with a tight rein on costs           
  • Lowest operational spending per capita in Auckland
  • Met parks, libraries, and community facilities needs
  • Refurbished the Mt Albert Aquatic Centre

Village and town centres  

  • Secured budget for town and village centre renewal
  • Point Chevalier plaza upgrade completed
  • Mt Albert Town Centre upgrade to commence soon

Parks and open space  

  • Opened the award-winning Waterview Reserve splashpad and playground
  • Opened the popular splashpad at Potters Park
  • Opened the Rocket at Rocket Park
  • Significant upgrades in Essex Reserve, Mt Eden and Sandringham Reserve
  • Renewed playgrounds at six parks  
  • Flying fox at Rocket Park
  • Completed new park at Sainsbury Reserve Significant upgrade underway at Nicholson Park
  • Commenced NZ’s first fibre-reinforced sportsfield at Nixon Park Planned for sportsfield upgrades at Fowlds, Gribblehirst, Phyllis and Walker Parks

Environment

  • Funded community groups restoring the Oakley/Te Auaunga and Meola/Waititiko Creeks
  • Restoring rock forest at Oakley Creek, Almorah and Thomas Withiel Reserve
  • Ecological restoration of Windmill Reserve
  • Planted 42,000 native plants
  • Waste recovery centre for the central isthmus planned to open 2017        
  • Established Eco-Neighbourhoods Sustainability Programme

Community empowerment

  • Supported community-led planning in Sandringham
  • Worked with the community on projects like the Bright Street butterfly mural, Hendon Ave youth mural and Neighbours Day Aotearoa
  • Funded over 60 community projects
  • Supported a Community Hub Project in Sandringham
  • Established an Accommodation Grant to assist groups to continue using facilities in the area

Local economic development

  • Actively supported five business associations
  • Helped fund the Point Chevalier, Dominion Road and Sandringham markets.
  • Held the inaugural Albert-Eden Business Awards

Events and arts  

  • Funded the Albert-Eden Schools Cultural Festival, Sandringham Spring Festival, Brazil Day Fiesta, Elevated Family Park Jam and Christmas at Potters
  • Funded Movies in Parks and Kids in Parks events
  • Launched the ‘Billy App’ for the Billy Apple art walk
  • Funded numerous art events through the Albert-Eden Neighbourhood Arts programme

Transport  

  • Worked with Auckland Transport to deliver traffic calming projects
  • Planned greenway developments
  • Funded the train station connection in Mt Albert  
  • Funded cycling and walking connections
  • Advocated for a city fringe residential parking zone
