Celebrate the Point Chevalier Plaza Upgrade.
Albert-Eden Local Board is committed to supporting its local town centres which have been struggling in the face of challenges from alternatives such as malls and big-box retail centres.
By investing in place making (improvements to the public spaces) we aim to both make the town centre more attractive for the local community and encourage the private property owners and shop keepers to join in and up their game. We have funding for a series of town centre upgrades, of which Point Chevalier has been first.
The Point Chevalier upgrade has focussed on the plaza between the library and the arcade opposite – wider aspects of the town centre will be done in future years, as funding allows. By extending the Plaza further north and relocating the toilets out of the middle we now have a much more usable space whether for small groups or public events. It has been designed for flexible use with a mix of paved and grassed areas and improved seating, some of which can be relocated or re-orientated to suit the needs of users or activities.
So come on down this Saturday 1-3pm for the grand opening and entertainment.
